Here are some different types of Atsumari challenges: Extending the theme introduced by Chain Rule (see below), Tumblers 2 is the first Atsumari puzzle made with the help of a highly-specialized software solver (a couple of hundred lines of Ruby code). The solution is unique. Here is the solution and a lengthy discussion of this unusual flavor of Atsumari puzzles. There are ten 2’s on this standard 50-hex board. (Don’t worry that it’s not a valid Atsumari puzzle; this challenge is more of an experiment than an actual puzzle...) It sure looks like you could fit eleven 2's on the board if you moved things around. Here’s a template that you can use to help (print it out and use a pencil or pack coins, beans, whatever on it). Here are a couple of solutions with eleven 2's packed on the board. The puzzle on the left(above) has multiple solutions (so it’s not a true Atsumari puzzle). An example solution is given on the right. Can you add 1 to one of the numerical clues for the puzzle on the left and still pack the clusters on the board?
